Fruit Cocktail Cake (Marilyn Clark)

I’m not really sure what this one would be like. Fruit cocktail is good. Cake is good. But together? I also wonder if the fruit should be left chunky, or since fruit cocktail fruit pieces are relatively soft if they should be blended. The recipe isn’t clear there. What would you do? I think I’d leave them chunky.

Fruit Cocktail Cake (Marilyn Clark)

1 c flour

1 c sugar

1 tsp baking soda

1 egg beaten

1 tsp salt

1 can (15 1/4 oz) fruit cocktail undrained

1/2 c brown sugar

12 c chopped walnuts

Mix flour, sugar, baking soda, salt fruit cocktail & egg until smooth. Pour into greased 9 inch square baking pan. Combine brown sugar & walnuts, sprinkle over top. Bake 350º 30-35 min or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
