Man’s Salad

This recipe for a layered salad is called “Man’s Salad” but I have questions. Does this refer to a particular man? Does it mean humans in general? Is it a restaurant named Man’s? What about a manly salad? So many questions for a simple salad and that doesn’t even take into consideration the possible misspelling of Mann’s…

Man’s Salad

Layer

1/2 to 3/4 pound fresh broken spinach

Sprinkle salt, pepper & 1/2 TBL sugar

1/2 pound crumbled crisp fried bacon

406 hard cooked eggs – chopped or sliced

1 head crisp broken lettuce

Sprinkle salt, pepper, 1/2 TBL sugar

6-8 oz coarsely shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese (save some for on top)

1 small package defrosted, drained green peas

1 large sweet onion – thinly sliced

Seal with Hellmann’s mayonnaise

Top with a little cheese

Cover with Saran

Refrigerate overnight

  1. Man’s? hahaha! Perhaps because BACON. I have a similar recipe called 7 layer salad – start with lettuce then layer some veggies, sliced boiled eggs, bacon, then thawed frozen peas, a thick layer of mayo, sprinkle generously with sugar, then top with shredded cheddar. Wrap it tight and refrigerate overnight and magic happens with the mayo + sugar and people LOVE IT.
