This particular recipe card doesn’t have a title or name for this dish, so I called it Hamburger Pie. It reminds me of something my mom used to make, although I can’t think offhand what that was called either. But it did involve shaping the meat into a pie crust type of thing and then adding a filling. You would want to use ground beef here and be aware that the higher fat content you use, the more grease in the bottom of your cooking dish. So, maybe use a 93/7 ratio. It could also be made with ground turkey if you don’t want to use beef, but an addition of Worcestershire sauce or other flavoring might be in order.
Hamburger Pie
1 lb ground steak
1 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
Blend and press into 8″ pie pan
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
2 fresh small tomatoes diced
1 ground small green pepper
2 medium onions
1/2 tsp sweet basil
1/4 tsp oregano
1/2 c swiss cheese diced
1/2 tsp salt
Combine all ingredients and pour into the shell. Sprinkle with cheese (Italian) on top. 350º oven – 45 minutes
