Mrs. Cleveland’s Rolls

Make a sponge of:

2 large potatoes

1 cup water

1 cup milk

1 yeast cake

2 eggs beaten separately

2 tbsp sugar

When making into loaf add:

1 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp salt

1/2 cup lard

  1. I wonder what a cake of yeast convert to in tablespoons of the dry yeast. As I recall a cake of yeast was pretty good sized..can you even get cakes of yeast anymore..I will have to look at the store! We like potato bread..so I bet these rolls would be delicious. :)

  2. I’m going to ask my mom about the yeast because I was wondering the same thing. I have seen Fleishman’s yeast practically hidden at the store. I wonder if a Whole Foods type place would have more yeast options.
