Golden Puffs

These sound a bit to me like donuts – they are a battered dough that you cook in hot oil. There’s probably a fancy name for this type of baked good – Paul Hollywood would know, right? :-) I bet they are very easy once you get the hang of it, and then you can get creative. Try filling them with bits of jam like an abelskeever or Boston cream or icing. Sounds delicious!

Golden Puffs

Sift 2 cups sifted flour, 3 tsp baking powder, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp nutmeg. Add 1/4 cup oil, 3/4 cup milk, 1 egg. Stir well with fork. Drop by teaspoon full into deep fat at 375. Cook until golden brown, about 3 min. Drain. Roll in cinnamon sugar or glaze by dipping into thin confectioners sugar icing.

2 cups flour

3 t baking powder

1/4 c sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp nutmeg

1/4 c oil use a light vegetable oil for the best taste, not olive oil or anything with a strong taste/smell

3/4 c milk

1 egg

Sift dry ingredients together. Add in oil, milk and egg. Stir well with a fork. Heat deep fat fryer to 375. Drop batter by teaspoons in the hot oil and cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels. roll in cinnamon sugar or sugar icing glaze.
