Spice Cake

Here’s a nice recipe for a spice cake. I bet it’s good, and another non-chocolate alternative. If you remember from an earlier post, Mrs Fish was Gram’s mother’s good friend, and Gram sometimes called her Auntie Fish.

My guess for this recipe is to cream the butter and sugar, add the rest, bake in a 9×13 or loaf pan depending on how much batter, for between 30-45 minutes at 350. That seems to be the general instruction on cakes. You could sprinkle powdered sugar across the top if you like.

Spice Cake (Mrs. Fish)

2 cups sugar (1 1/2 may be better)

1/2 cup butter

2 eggs

1 cup sour milk

1 tsp soda

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 tsp cloves

2 tsp cinnamon

little nutmeg

1 cup raisins

  1. Actually, I think it would go into an 8×8 pan, or perhaps a 9×9 pan. Auntie Fish is the one from whom Gram got the garnets that she so prized. Nice inheritance!
