Today we feature another recipe from Mrs Roueche. I think this is written by Mrs Roueche because I don’t recognize this as Gram’s handwriting. I can’t read the last word on the card: If cream is thin add a ??
Sour Cream Cake
Beat together
1 egg beaten
1 cup sugar
salt
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups flour
nutmeg or lemon
1/2 level tsp soda
If cream is thin add ????
Back in my youth, my grandmother always had sour cream cookies. These were made from the cream that rose to the top of the milk and after being poured off would sour. It was not like our commercial sour cream of today. The ??? probably was the result of the cream not being consistent from bottle to bottle (or cow to cow) therefore making a cake too thin. I think she would probably add a little more flour. She probably got interrupted in finishing the last line, and then forgot.
