This is a boiled frosting recipe. I am not experienced enough of a cake maker to know the benefit of boiling versus a cold frosting. Perhaps someone in the know can share with the group.
Chocolate Frosting
6 Tbs milk
6 Tbs butter
1 1/2 c sugar
Bring to a boil. Boil for 30 seconds. Add 1/2 cup of choc chips, vanilla. Mix well.
This is the only chocolate frosting I have made for many years. It is much easier – simple in fact – than a traditional “cooked” frosting. Just be sure to measure accurately, and don’t boil the mixture any longer than 30 seconds or it will get “sugary”. I usually use closer to 3/4 cup of choc chips.

I’ve stayed away from cooked frostings since they tend to bomb for me. I might actually try this if it’s been used successfully. Does it make enough to frost a double layer cake or just a sheet?
