Mrs. Cleveland is at it again!
Oatmeal Bread (Mrs. Cleveland)
1/2 c cornmeal
1/2 c rolled oats
Pour over 2 c hot water
Let stand until cold
Add 3/4 cups molasses
1 tsp salt
1 yeast cake dissolved in 1/2 c warm water
Stir up stiff with flour, knead a little
Let stand over night
Put in pan in morning, let rise, bake
N.B. this recipe always runs over if I try to bake it in one pan
P.S. I have been doing some research into yeast. Check back tomorrow or the next day for some eyebrow raising information!
I love how in our grandparents’ day the adults still referred to each other as Mrs. So-and-so. This would never be Oatmeal Bread (Mary’s). My grandmother was always called Mrs. Patterson, even by her friends until she was considerably older and living in a senior apartment. I was shocked the first time I heard someone call her Bergie. Might have to try baking some yummy bread soon!

I am a little intimidated by the yeast because I haven’t used it in 35 years and Gram helped last time, lol. But I too want to try some bread!
